Kota Kinabalu: A 27-year-old furniture shop worker was jailed 10 months and fined RM1,500 or another two months by the Magistrate’s Court, Friday, for assaulting his pregnant wife.
Winmar Tahar pleaded guilty before Magistrate Jessica Ombou Kakayun to voluntarily cause hurt to his wife at 11am on Sept 26 in a quarters next to the Chan Furniture premises, Manggatal.

The offence under Section 323 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to one year or fine or up to RM2,000 or both, on conviction.
According to the prosecution, the incident occurred due to a misunderstanding between the couple after the wife failed to locate Winmar’s wallet when he asked her to find it.
Winmar beat his wife, who then ran for help at her in-law’s house and was later brought to the hospital for treatment as she suffered injuries on her left eye after being punched as well as bruises on her back after being kicked and wounds on her neck.
Winmar was ordered to be referred to the Immigration Department after serving the sentence.
In another case, a 38-year-old promoter was fined RM2,000 or one month’s jail for having stolen properties.
Junidin Atir admitted to having 120 bottles of Bezorol herbicides which were stolen from the Malaysian government between 9am on Aug 6 and 11.30am on Aug 7 at the Agricultural Chemicals (M) Sdn Bhd, South KKIP.
He was charged under Section 411 of the Penal Code which carries a jail term of up to five years or fine or both, on conviction.
