Kota Kinabalu: Kota Belud will be hosting this year’s Mr. Sabah Body Building Championship Kota Belud organised by Sabah State Bodybuilding Association (SBBA) in collaboration with the Kota Belud district office on August 22.
The annual event to be held at the Kadamaian Square Hall, Taginambur will see the competitors taking the stage in 19 different categories.
SBBA president Clarence Runggi said it also serves as a platform to select athletes to represent the state in the Mr. Malaysia 2026 Championship to be held in Kedah on Oct 1-5.
“This championship is not only aimed at producing state champions, but also as an important platform to identify the best athletes who have the potential to bring glory to Sabah at the national level.
“In addition, we also hope it will become a catalyst for the development of sports tourism and the local economy in Kota Belud,” he said.
Meanwhile, district officer Peter Jitun, who chaired the first coordination meeting held at his office recently is confident that this championship would not only bring together the best bodybuilders from all over Sabah, but also become a platform to introduce the natural beauty, cultural diversity and tourism products available in the district to visitors from within and outside the State.
Also present at the meeting were Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Ewon Benedick’s political secretary Cyle Lajimin as well as officials from the Youth Development, Sports Advancement, Creative Economy and Sabah Sports Council.
