Kota Kinabalu: Sabah Shell Petroleum Company Ltd (SSPC) has awarded four deepwater asset operations contracts to two Sabah-based companies, Bayu Asli Sdn Bhd and Unipetro Engineering Sdn Bhd, in a move aimed at strengthening local participation and technical capabilities in the State’s oil and gas industry.
The contracts cover a range of specialised services supporting SSPC’s deepwater operations, reflecting Shell’s continued investment in developing Sabah’s local energy ecosystem.
Bayu Asli has been awarded a contract to provide platform-deployed technologies supporting underwater inspection, maintenance and repair activities.
According to SSPC, the scope introduces “advancements in underwater inspection, including the use of platform-launched Remote-Operated Vehicles (ROVs),” which it described as “a significant step forward in local execution capability.”
The company said the award also marks “the first time a Sabahan company will undertake this scope of work.”
Meanwhile, Unipetro Engineering has secured contracts covering metering services as well as selected maintenance and engineering scopes.
The work includes the delivery of comprehensive metering services using NML Sirim-certified equipment and processes, alongside specialised services for motor and generator maintenance and engineering support for valve systems.
SSPC said the contracts demonstrate the application of “established technical capabilities and partnerships to support reliable and efficient operations.”
The company said the awards were based on the respective strengths of each contractor.
“Collectively, these contract awards reflect a capability-driven allocation across multiple service areas, enabling both companies to contribute their respective strengths in supporting SSPC’s deepwater operations,” it said.
Shell said the awards form part of its broader efforts to strengthen Sabah’s oil and gas industry by increasing opportunities for local companies to participate in specialised offshore services.
Describing the awards as “an important step,” SSPC said they reflect Shell’s ongoing commitment to “strengthen Sabah’s oil and gas ecosystem through sustained investment in local contractors, fostering capability development, technology adoption and long-term collaboration within the local energy industry.”
The latest contract awards underscore Shell’s continued focus on expanding local participation in high-value technical services while supporting the growth of Sabah-based companies capable of delivering specialised solutions for offshore energy operations.
