KENINGAU: The growing popularity of pickleball in Keningau reflects the community’s increasing interest in healthy lifestyles, recreational sports and social engagement, says the wife of Bingkor State Assemblyman, Datin Tengku Aini Tengku Ibrahim.

Speaking after a game session with local players at Patikang Pickle Park, Datin Tengku Aini expressed her pride in witnessing the rapid development of the sport, which has attracted participants from various age groups and backgrounds throughout the district.

According to her, the availability of quality facilities has played an important role in encouraging greater participation and creating opportunities for more people to become involved in the sport.

“It is truly encouraging to see how pickleball continues to grow in Keningau. The existence of well-maintained facilities such as Patikang Pickle Park provides a welcoming environment for both experienced players and newcomers to enjoy the game together,” she said.

The 2026 D-MAX also introduces an 8-speed automatic gearbox with sequential shift across the range, including the Single Cab variant, making it the first pick-up truck in Malaysia to offer an automatic transmission in that body style.
She noted that pickleball has evolved beyond being merely a recreational activity and has become a platform that brings people together, promotes healthy living and strengthens community ties.

Datin Tengku Aini said the strong spirit of camaraderie displayed among local pickleball clubs demonstrates how sports can unite people regardless of age, profession or social background.

“One of the most beautiful aspects of pickleball is its inclusiveness. It is a sport that can be enjoyed by young people, adults and senior citizens alike, while fostering friendship, teamwork and mutual support,” she added.

She also expressed her appreciation to the various pickleball clubs, volunteers and enthusiasts who have worked tirelessly to promote the sport and cultivate a positive sporting culture within the district.

According to her, community-driven sports initiatives play a significant role in encouraging active lifestyles, improving physical and mental well-being, and creating stronger bonds among residents.

Datin Tengku Aini further expressed hope that more young people and families would take advantage of the available facilities and participate in pickleball activities as a means of maintaining a healthy and balanced lifestyle.

As the sport continues to gain popularity across Sabah and Malaysia, Keningau has emerged as one of the districts embracing the trend through the establishment of dedicated facilities and an active network of players.

Beyond the courts, the growing pickleball movement reflects something even more meaningful—the power of sports to bring communities together.

Every match played, every friendship formed and every new player welcomed into the game contributes to a stronger, healthier and more connected society.

With enthusiasm for the sport continuing to rise, the future of pickleball in Keningau appears brighter than ever.
