Kota: Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) recorded its highest foundation student intake in 17 years, with 1,088 students enrolled for the 2026/2027 academic session.
The intake was marked by the conclusion of the Minggu Suai Mesra (MSM) orientation programme held at the Central Lecture Hall Complex 2 on Tuesday.

UMS Vice-Chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Kasim Mansor said the increase reflected the collective efforts of the university community and congratulated the new students on securing places at UMS.
He encouraged students to fully utilise academic and co-curricular opportunities, describing the foundation programme as an important pathway towards undergraduate studies.
PPST Director Associate Professor Newati Wid said the growing intake demonstrated UMS’ commitment to developing talent nationwide, with thousands of former foundation students having continued to pursue degree programmes at the university.
