End to JKKK renewals every two years

RANAU: The appointment of the Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK) will be in effect for five years and will only end after the next state election unlike before, where it was renewed every two years.

Paginatan Assemblyman Datuk Rusdin Riman said the JKKK term will run like an assemblyman’s term for one term, and this is certainly a good news for all JKKK office holders.

However, he warned the newly-appointed JKKK secretary and chairman not to get too comfortable because he will establish an independent monitoring committee that will monitor their performance.

“Anyone who does not perform, I will not hesitate to terminate your service. I would like to emphasise that the role of the JKKK is not only focused on village management, but also as an agent of unity in our society which is multi-racial, multi-religious and multi-background. JKKK needs to be a leader who unites, not divides,” he said.

Rusdin, who is also the Sabah Credit Corporation (SCC) Chairman, said this when officiating the JKKK Appointment Letter Presentation Ceremony for DUN N38 Paginatan held at the Misompuru Hall Poring recently.

He said the JKKK is the backbone of administration at the grassroots level where they are the main link between the people and the Government.

“All voices, needs and problems of the community in the village must be conveyed accurately, so that appropriate action can be taken.

“In this regard, I hope all the appointed JKKKs can work closely with the Office of the Assemblyman, government agencies and local leaders in ensuring that development in the Paginatan area continues to be strengthened.

“Use this opportunity to serve the community. Be a leader who is approachable, transparent in action and always prioritises the interests of the people,” he said.

“Those in need such as the elderly, single mothers and underprivileged families must be given due attention. Ensure that every aid channelled reaches the target group fairly and transparently,” he said.

From an administrative perspective, Rusdin said, JKKK needs to practise good governance, hold regular meetings, manage finances prudently and ensure that every plan is implemented in an orderly and effective manner.
