Kota Kinabalu: Sabah recorded a slight improvement in its overall performance in the 2025 Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) examination, with the state’s cumulative grade point average (CGPA) rising to 2.78 from 2.77 in 2024 despite a lower number of candidates.
Sabah Education Director Datuk Raisin Saidin said 8,296 candidates registered for STPM 2025 compared to 8,356 in 2024, with 7,632 candidates, or 91.99 per cent, sitting for the examination.

He said the number of students achieving a perfect 4.00 CGPA increased from 146 in 2024 to 158 in 2025, while candidates obtaining 5As in five subjects rose from seven to 21, although those obtaining 4As fell slightly from 139 to 137.
Raisin said Sabah’s CGPA remained below the national average of 2.88, but 98.87 per cent of candidates achieved full passes at principal level and 99.96 per cent qualified for the STPM certificate, while 21 of 22 subjects recorded a full pass rate of at least 60 per cent and four subjects registered improvements of more than three percentage points.
He said SMK Kinabutan Tawau was recognised as the National Best Form Six Centre for Mode 2 and Mode 3 and for Best Performance Improvement, while Form Six College Kota Kinabalu and Form Six College Tawau were also selected among the national best centres, with Ahmad Mursyied Umair Darwis of SM Agama Kota Kinabalu named National Best Student in the Social Science Stream.
