Kota Kinabalu: Sabah recorded a 5.9 per cent decrease in detected drug addicts and substance abusers in 2025, with 8,665 cases compared to 9,607 in 2024, Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor said.

He said Sabah also recorded the country's lowest detection rate last year, with 230 drug addicts and substance abusers identified.

Speaking after chairing the State Drug Eradication Action Council (MTMD) meeting at Menara Kinabalu on Monday, Hajiji said the achievement reflected the effectiveness of efforts to curb both the supply and demand of drugs and substances in the State.

He commended the National Anti-Drugs Agency (AADK) for its community-based prevention programmes, including the Drug-Free Aspirations Roadshow on Banggi Island in Kudat held in collaboration with the Two-Wheel Anti-Drug Squad programme, and also praised the Sabah contingent of the Royal Malaysia Police for recent major drug seizures.
