Unesco recognition validates Sabah’s green efforts: Minister
Jafry said the success would not have been possible without the support and cooperation of various stakeholders, including government agencies, research institutions, non-governmental organisations, the private sector, development partners and local communities, all of whom have played important roles in advancing conservation initiatives.
Kota Kinabalu: Unesco’s recognition of the Crocker Range Biosphere Reserve and Kinabatangan Biosphere Reserve is proof that Sabah’s conservation efforts have earned international recognition and respect.

Sabah Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Jafry Ariffin said the achievement further enhances Sabah’s reputation as a state rich in natural heritage and capable of managing its resources responsibly for the benefit of present and future generations.

He said such recognition carries significant value for Sabah’s development, particularly at a time when travellers around the world are increasingly seeking destinations that offer authentic nature-based experiences and embrace sustainability principles.

“Unesco recognition not only adds value to Sabah’s image on the international stage, but also creates wider opportunities for nature-based tourism development, scientific research, environmental education and the economic growth of local communities,” he said.
