RANAU: Residents of Kampung Togoyog and Kampung Lipoi joined forces in a gotong-royong initiative to repair the aging Liwagu River Suspension Bridge, a vital link connecting Kampung Rugading and Kampung Togoyog.

Construction materials were contributed by Paginatan Assemblyman and Chairman of Sabah Credit Corporation, Datuk Rusdin Riman, whose swift response to the villagers’ concerns was warmly welcomed by the local community.

Residents expressed gratitude to Rusdin for his concern and commitment in addressing the issue promptly, noting that the bridge serves as an essential transportation route for hundreds of villagers living in the surrounding areas.

The suspension bridge plays a crucial role in their daily lives by providing safe access across the Liwagu River.

Schoolchildren rely on the bridge to travel to and from school each day, while farmers use it to transport agricultural produce to nearby markets and collection centres.

The bridge is also frequently used by residents for work, business activities, and access to basic services, making its condition a matter of great importance to the community.

Prior to the repairs, the deteriorating structure had become a growing concern, particularly during bad weather when crossing the river could become more hazardous.

The restoration works are expected to significantly improve safety and provide greater peace of mind for users.
