‘Raping sis till she got pregnant’

LAHAD DATU: A 31-year-old man pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court here on Friday to a charge of raping his younger sister until she became pregnant.

The accused, a palm oil mill operator, is alleged to have committed the offence against his 17-year-old sister between 2pm and 5pm in December last year at a plantation quarters.

The charge, under Section 376(3) of the Penal Code, carries a prison sentence of between eight and 30 years, and whipping of at least 10 strokes upon conviction.

The prosecution objected to bail on the grounds of family connection to the victim, while the defence requested release on conditions, assuring no contact with any witnesses during proceedings.

In TAWAU, an undocumented foreign man was jailed 10 months by the Sessions Court on Friday for possessing controlled goods without a licence last month.

Jerry Angasali was sentenced by Judge Ahmad Faizadh Yahaya after he pleaded guilty to the charge, which was read to him in the Bajau language.

Jerry admitted to possessing 160 litres of petrol and two 14kg liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders without a licence at about 11am on May 22 this year.

The offence was committed in waters between Pulau Mataking and Pulau Boheyan in Semporna.

He was charged under Section 21 of the Control of Supplies Act 1961, read together with Regulation 3(1) of the Control of Supplies Regulations 1974, and punishable under Section 22(1) of the same Act.

The provision carries a fine of up to RM1 million, imprisonment of up to three years, or both upon conviction.

The court also ordered Jerry to be referred to the Immigration Department after serving his sentence.

The seized controlled goods were ordered to be sold, with the proceeds forfeited to the government.

A wooden boat without a registration number and two pump engines used in the offence were also forfeited for disposal.

Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry prosecuting officer Zulkifli Baco prosecuted, while Jerry was unrepresented.
