PENANG: A 29-year-old truck driver was remanded until June 12 after allegedly driving recklessly and damaging several vehicles in an incident on Monday.
The incident occurred along the Sungai Dua route towards Penang, where videos shared on social media showed a Mitsubishi pickup truck weaving between the two leftmost lanes of the road.
Despite sustaining damage, the vehicle continued moving dangerously, including travelling against the flow of traffic.
Seberang Perai Tengah Police Chief ACP Nik Aminuddin Raja Abdullah said the driver was eventually detained by members of the public on the Butterworth-Kulim Expressway.
Police found a sling bag in the suspect's possession containing a transparent plastic packet of crystal-like substance believed to be methamphetamine and another packet believed to contain ketamine.
A urine test later confirmed the man had consumed methamphetamine and morphine, Nik Aminuddin said.
The suspect is being investigated for driving under the influence of drugs and causing an accident, while the remand order was issued on Tuesday to facilitate further investigations.
