Consumer wins tribunal case over undisclosed crash history

PENANG: A consumer from Seberang Perai won a case at the Tribunal Tuntutan Pengguna Malaysia after discovering a pre-owned Volkswagen Vento purchased under a certified dealer programme allegedly had an undisclosed accident history.

Lim Jing Xuan claimed the vehicle, bought in 2019, had allegedly been involved in two separate accidents, with repair records reportedly showing structural damage and welding work.

The respondent presented Puspakom B5 and B7 inspection reports showing the vehicle had passed standard checks, before Lim later obtained a separate B2 structural inspection.

The tribunal subsequently ordered the cancellation of the sale agreement and directed compensation to be paid after the B2 report concluded the vehicle failed to comply with provisions under the Road Transport Act 1987.
