PENAMPANG: Police are investigating a fight that allegedly occurred at the Kadazan Dusun Cultural Association (KDCA) Unity Centre grounds during the recent Kaamatan Festival celebrations, said deputy Penampang police chief DSP Erwansyah Abdul Basir.

He said several videos of the incident had been detected circulating on social media and were being examined as part of the investigation.

Initial investigations found that the incident is believed to have stemmed from a misunderstanding between several individuals and did not involve the use of any weapons.

Erwansyah said the altercation was successfully broken up by members of the public who were at the scene and that several individuals have had their statements recorded to assist investigations.

He said police are working to identify all those involved and trace witnesses, while urging the public not to speculate or spread unverified information that could affect investigations or public order.
