Seasoned golfer Saianin takes nett title

RANAU: Experienced player Saianin Amin showed consistent action to emerge as the champion of the nett category at the 2026 Aidiladha Cashsweep Mini Golf Championship held here recently.

The tournament was organised by the People’s Service Centre, P.179 Ranau Parliamentary Office which brought together 32 golfers from this district at the Pasir Putih Golf Club (PPGC) here on Saturday.

Saianin finished the round with a nett score of 70 strokes, thus creating a score of two under par to top the overall chart and take home the champion title.

The competition for the podium position was also fierce when three players recorded the same score, which was 71 strokes.

Based on the Overall Count Back (OCB) calculation, Rusdie Mahali was crowned the runner-up, while Haji Amran Muntu ranked third and Rumin Jaafar ranked fourth.

Mahmud Jahar finished in fifth place with 73 strokes, while Mohd Jedit Sabin completed the list of the top six after also recording the same score before being separated through the OCB system.

In the gross category, female player Anita Silan proved her game sharpness when she recorded 80 strokes to win the championship.

Anita managed to overcome a close challenge from Deimi Yangkui@ Gopol who was closely following with 81 strokes.

Muhamil Lajim came in third place after recording 82 strokes, followed by Haji Azmi Ahmad (83 strokes), Haili Salim (84 strokes) and Mohd Shahril Saufi Mahmud who completed the top six with 86 strokes.

The nett category competition at the 2026 Aidiladha Cashsweep Mini Golf Championship, held in conjunction with the Aidiladha celebration, successfully brought together golf enthusiasts from across the Ranau district in a spirit of friendship and healthy competition.

The tournament served not only as a sporting event but also as a platform to strengthen bonds among members of the local golf community. Participants from various backgrounds gathered to showcase their skills while fostering goodwill and sportsmanship on and off the course.

The organiser said the championship reflected the values of unity and togetherness synonymous with the Aidiladha celebration, while encouraging greater participation in recreational and competitive sports.

The event also played an important role in promoting a healthy lifestyle and cultivating a positive sporting culture among participants.

Through friendly yet competitive play, golfers were able to test their abilities, exchange experiences and build stronger networks within the local sporting fraternity.

The successful staging of the championship highlights the growing interest in golf in Ranau and demonstrates how sporting events can contribute to community development, social cohesion and the promotion of professional competition in a positive environment.

Earlier, the tournament opening ceremony and prize presentation were officiated by Ajamain Dani, Liaison Officer for the Ranau Member of Parliament, who was present on behalf of Datuk Jonathan Yasin.
