SEMPORNA: Police arrested a 23-year-old local man during an Ops Pintu operation in the town area for obstructing officers and possessing dangerous weapons.
District Police Chief Superintendent Tan Hiap Wah said the suspect was arrested by personnel from the Criminal Investigation Division at about 6.30pm.
Tan said during the operation, the suspect, who was inside a Perodua Kelisa, reacted aggressively and reversed his vehicle into a police car, causing damage to the left side of the police vehicle.
“Police managed to detain the suspect after a scuffle. Further inspection found a homemade knife, a pair of scissors, as well as several tools believed to have been used in burglary activities.
“Further checks also found that the suspect had previous criminal records related to vehicle theft and drug abuse,” he said.
According to Tan, the suspect admitted to taking drugs and his urine test returned positive for drug use.
He said the case is being investigated under Section 186 of the Penal Code, Section 6(1) of the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act 1958, and Section 18(e) of the Minor Offences Ordinance.
Meanwhile, Tan urged the public to register with the Volunteer Smartphone Patrol (VSP) and scan the QR code provided for public complaints to channel information on criminal activities.
He added that cooperation from the public is crucial in maintaining security and public order.
