TAMBUNAN: Vince Joerry emerged champion in the Open category at the Tambunan District-level Sugandoi Kaamatan competition held at the Pisompuruan Square Open Hall here.
Jaflex Junior emerged runner-up while Joed Joan Joseph took third place in the category, which drew strong participation from contestants across the district.
The annual event featured three categories, namely Dazanak, Songkotoun and Open, aimed at promoting traditional singing and preserving the cultural heritage of the Kadazandusun Murut Rungus (KDMR) community.
Tambunan District Officer Azri Jaini Jeffrey, who officiated at the event, said the Sugandoi competition was not merely a singing contest but also an important platform to preserve and strengthen KDMR cultural heritage, particularly among the younger generation.
In the Dazanak category, Muhammad Iqbal emerged champion while BeckhsBryan finished second and also won the Best Performance award.
Xavier Neils Dionysius placed third, followed by Fenny Gwen, Crystal Anne and Ivander Owen.

For the Songkotoun category, Philip Madanging was named champion, followed by Geofrry Ibun in second place and Jovina Saipat in third. Joe Muning finished fourth, followed by Gallus, Paulus Kodoling, Aileen Madanging and Jovita Laimpah.
Paulus also received the Best Performance award.
In the Open category, Alson Jaffrin finished fourth, followed by Syrbino Siggah, Tracy Clara Justinus, Ethaneus Dyern Tadius, Fenyona Freddy, Delbert Conan, Macdeline Masidah, Jovenia Jove Janley and Priska Priyesyella.
Macdeline won the Best Performance award.
