SANDAKAN: Two local men were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol during an anti-drunk driving operation (Op Mabuk) conducted by the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division (BSPT) of the Sandakan District Police Headquarters early Sunday morning.
The operation, carried out around Batu 4, Jalan Utara, involved one senior officer and 11 BSPT personnel from the Sandakan district police headquarters.

Sandakan Police Chief George Abd Rakman said both individuals were detained under Section 45A(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for driving under the influence of alcohol beyond the permitted limit.
He added that if convicted, they could face imprisonment of up to two years and a fine ranging from RM10,000 to RM30,000. Offenders may also lose their driving licence eligibility for two years.
During the same operation, a total of 14 summonses were issued for various traffic offences.
George said thorough inspections were conducted on all road users to ensure full compliance with traffic laws and regulations, as well as to detect any other offences.

He also advised the public to always obey road laws for their own safety and that of other road users.
