Earlier, the department received an emergency call regarding the disappearance of the two women at 8.54pm. The victims were believed to have gone fishing at 8.30am before family members realised they had not returned home and could not be contacted until nightfall.
“According to the caller, both victims left home at 8.30am for fishing, but had still not returned by night and could not be contacted.
“The caller, who was worried about the victims’ safety, then contacted the Fire and Rescue Department for assistance,” he said to Daily Express.
Calvin said the fire and rescue team arrived at the scene at 9.14pm, gathered further information and established an Incident Control Centre (PKTK) for the search and rescue (SAR) operation.
“At 11.29pm, the department received a report that the victims had been found by members of the public about one kilometre from the location where they were initially reported missing,” he added.
The victims were then brought out by members of the public to the PKTK for medical assessment as well as identification and verification by family members.
After the examination and verification process were completed, the victims were taken home by their family members.
