66 agencies staff participate in disaster drill in Tuaran

Tuaran: A total of 66 officers and personnel from six agencies participated in the In-Service Disaster Exercise 2026 held at the junction of Jalan Kampung Gaya Ratau and Jalan Bundu Tohuri in Tamparuli on Tuesday.

The simulation exercise, conducted from 9.04am to 10.50am, involved a scenario of a two-vehicle accident in which one van had plunged into a ravine while another vehicle was left wedged against an embankment.

Tuaran District Police Chief Supt Noraidin Ag Maidin said the exercise involved 15 simulated casualties, comprising 14 injured victims and one confirmed fatality caused by entrapment.

According to him, the Royal Malaysia Police deployed the largest contingent with 27 personnel, followed by the Fire and Rescue Department with 16 members, the Civil Defence Force with 10 personnel, Tuaran Hospital with nine staff members, the Malaysian Red Crescent Society with two members and the Tuaran District Office with two officers.

Noraidin said the drill focused on three main objectives, namely rescuing trapped victims, coordinating casualty management among agencies and strengthening communication between responding agencies at the incident site.

As part of the emergency preparedness simulation, Tuaran Hospital’s Red Alert status was also activated during the exercise.

“The police wish to record our appreciation and gratitude to all agencies involved for their commitment, cooperation and the high level of professionalism demonstrated in making this exercise a success,” he said.

He added that such exercises are crucial in ensuring all responding agencies remain fully prepared to face any potential disaster or emergency situation in the future.
