Kota Kinabalu: Sabah Angkatan Muda Keadilan (AMK) has welcomed the increase in Sabah’s interim Special Grant payment from RM600 million to RM1.5 billion announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Anwar Ibrahim.
Its chief, Zaidi Jatil
(pic) said the announcement reflects the Madani Government’s commitment to addressing Sabah’s long-standing demands and constitutional rights.
He noted that prior to the change in the Federal Government in 2022, Sabah had received about RM26.7 million annually for decades despite the existence of the 40 per cent revenue entitlement under the Federal Constitution.
According to him, the steady increase in interim payments under Anwar’s administration demonstrates significant progress between 2022 and 2026.
Sabah AMK said the development showed that Sabah’s aspirations are not only being heard but are also being addressed through a responsible and constructive approach.
It also stressed that efforts to secure Sabah’s rights, including matters related to the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63), should continue until a comprehensive and lasting solution is achieved in line with the spirit of MA63 and Articles 112C and 112D of the Federal Constitution.
Zaidi said a mature approach, close cooperation between the State and Federal governments and political stability are among the key factors in ensuring Sabah’s development agenda can be implemented effectively.
He said the increase to RM1.5 billion should be viewed as a significant achievement that would bring direct benefits to the State’s development and the wellbeing of its people.
Sabah AMK, he added, remains committed to championing the interests of Sabahans through constructive engagement to ensure the State continues to progress, strengthen its position and receive its rightful entitlements within the Federation of Malaysia.
