Jenggo FT crowned 9-a-side football champions
​​​​​​​Jenggo FT emerged as champions, taking a group photo with Jonathan (4th left) at the Sinarut Baru Field.
RANAU: Jenggo FT emerged as champions of the Jonathan Yasin Cup 9-A-Side Football Tournament organised by Sinarut Football Club near here, recently.

Jenggo FT secured a handsome victory after presenting an excellent performance, thereby bringing home with them a cash prize of RM3,000 along with a medal and a trophy.

Massa FT X Kickers emerged as the runners-up by taking home RM1,500, while joint third place went to Sinarut Team and Matra Mix who each received RM800 along with a medal and a trophy.

Meanwhile, Leopole Alfonso from Jenggo FT was named the Best Player, while his teammate, Agustinus Mohd. Hassan, received the Best Goalkeeper Award.

Sinarut Team was recognised as the Best Team of the tournament due to their consistent action and impressive performance throughout the competition, thus stealing the attention of local football fans.

Teams from outside the district participating in the tournament were Jenggo FT (Papar), Massa FT X Kickers (Kota Marudu), Kesatria (Kota Belud), ONID FT (Tuaran) and Lamasia (Tongod), who managed to increase the intensity of the competition throughout the tournament.

For the Ranau local team category, a total of 14 teams competed including Sinarut Team, Matra Mix, Sinar Villa, Liwagu FC, Tona FC, Malinsau FC, Ranau JAF FT, Sipkan FC, Poskop FC, Nomad FT, R&J FT, Kibara FC, Tinatak FT and KBKPS, making a total of 19 teams vying for the championship.

The tournament was held in full swing for two days from May 1-2 at the Sinarut Baru Field here, thus further stimulating the development of community football in the district.

It successfully attracted the participation of teams from within and outside the district, making the competition more competitive and receiving a warm welcome among local sports fans.

The opening ceremony was officiated by Ranau Member of Parliament, Datuk Jonathan Yasin on the first day of the tournament.

In his speech, he said that organising such a tournament not only provided a healthy competition arena, but also served to strengthen the bonds of friendship among players and the local community.

According to him, the sports platform also opened up space for participants to expand their networks of contacts as well as instilling a spirit of unity regardless of background.

He also expressed his appreciation to all the teams that participated, including those who came from outside the district.
