KOTA KINABALU: Nominated Assemblyman Datuk Roger Chin has urged the State Government to take immediate and concrete action on Sabah’s 40 per cent revenue entitlement, saying continued delays contradict a clear constitutional obligation affirmed by the courts.
Debating the motion of thanks for the Yang di-Pertua Negeri’s address, he said the issue was no longer procedural but about enforcement of a court-recognised right.
He noted that the High Court had ruled the failure to review the grant since 1974 as a breach of constitutional duty.
Chin questioned the lack of implementation for recent years, particularly since 2022, arguing that data is available and there should be no excuse for delay.
He also called for transparency in ongoing negotiations and clarity on the State’s position.
He warned that prolonged discussions without timelines undermine Sabah’s development plans under Sabah Maju Jaya 2.0, adding that fiscal certainty is essential for long-term economic planning.
Chin further urged the State Assembly to present a united stance, calling for a clear implementation timeline from the Chief Minister, stressing that Sabah’s constitutional entitlement must be honoured without further delay.
