KOTA KINABALU: Darau assemblyman Azhar Matussin has called for an immediate halt to demolition works in Kg Likas under the Likas River Mitigation Project until fair compensation, proper relocation, and residents’ welfare are guaranteed.
He stressed that development must not sacrifice people’s dignity, urging a consultation committee, written housing assurances, and an independent social audit. He also pressed authorities to ensure six Kg Nelayan families are included in a promised land allocation.
At the same time, Azhar highlighted worsening water supply issues in Kg Likas and Kingfisher, where residents face repeated disruptions and low pressure.
He urged the Sabah Water Department to issue a full report within 30 days, approve emergency repairs, improve public notification systems, and develop a long-term water supply plan, warning that continued failures risk eroding public trust.
