TAWAU: A 39-year-old female clerk was among individuals detained in Op Mabuk at two separate locations between 11pm and 1.30am around Tawau town on Saturday.
Tawau District Police Chief, ACP Jasmin Hussin said a total of 48 vehicles of various types were inspected during the operation, while 50 individuals were screened.
He said six summonses were issued for various traffic offences.
“During the operation, police detained a local female driver after an initial screening using the SD2+ alcohol breath screening device at the scene.
“Following that, the suspect was taken to the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division (BSPT), IPD Tawau for a confirmation test using the Evidential Breath Analyzer (EBA II), which recorded a reading above the permitted limit,” he said.
He added that the woman was detained for further action, while the vehicle she was driving was also seized.
Jasmin said the operation, conducted by the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division (BSPT), IPD Tawau, involved one officer and nine personnel at Jalan Sim Hwa Seng and Jalan St. Patrick.
“This operation is part of ongoing PDRM enforcement efforts to curb drivers driving under the influence of alcohol and to ensure road users’ safety is always protected,” he said.
Meanwhile, a 19-year-old local male teenager was also detained for riding a motorcycle without a licence, as well as for having expired road tax (LKM) and insurance.
Jasmin said the teenager was arrested in a separate operation under Op Mentor Complaint and monitoring of illegal racing activities at the One Arena area, Kubota.
“The suspect was issued a summons notice and will be brought to court in the near future,” he said, adding that three motorcycles were also seized under Section 64(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 in the same operation.
Meanwhile, he stressed that police will continue to intensify enforcement actions from time to time against any road users who violate the law, especially offences involving driving under the influence of alcohol.
The public is also advised not to drive at all after consuming alcoholic beverages for the safety of themselves and other road users.
