Kota Kinabalu: Two men were each jailed one day and fined RM10,000 by the Traffic Court here on Friday for drink-driving.
Yap Chee Lung, 37, and Alex Gohinmin, 40, pleaded guilty separately before Magistrate Marilyn Kelvin to the charges against them.
Yap was sentenced to one day’s jail and fined RM10,000 or eight months’ jail for driving a Ford Ranger with an alcohol level of 122mg per 100ml of breath, exceeding the legal limit.
The offence was committed at about 12.01am on March 19, this year, along Jalan Coastal.
The court heard from the prosecution that that police, who were conducting an operation against drink-driving, stopped Yap’s vehicle on suspicion.
A screening test indicated the presence of alcohol, and a subsequent evidential breath test confirmed the reading of 122mg per 100ml, above the permitted limit of 50mg.
