SANDAKAN: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced a RM1,500 compassionate aid for each family affected by the Kampung Bahagia fire.
He said 300 families would receive the aid, with a total allocation of RM450,000 to be channelled through the Implementation Coordination Unit (ICU) of the Prime Minister’s Department, the Government of Malaysia and the National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma).
Anwar also announced a special RM300 assistance for each Malaysian school-going child, to be disbursed by the Ministry of Education.
He said the aid would benefit 454 Malaysian schoolchildren from 12 schools, and also announced free replacement of identification documents for fire victims, including birth certificates, MyKid, MyKad, death certificates and non-Muslim marriage certificates.
He said this after visiting the fire site at Kampung Bahagia and meeting victims at Dewan SK Gas and Dewan PPR Batu Sapi on Wednesday, where about 1,000 houses were destroyed over more than four hectares, leaving over 9,000 people homeless, with 1,912 victims from 385 families placed in eight temporary evacuation centres as of April 22.
