Jalan Gunung Bintang reopens: New roundabout to ease Luyang traffic
Kota Kinabalu: Property developer, KTI Group, has reopened Jalan Gunung Bintang in front of the Luyang Health Clinic on Thursday, following weeks of upgrading works aimed at easing congestion and improving road safety in the area.

The road reopened at 10pm on Thursday (April 23), restoring outbound access towards BTC Heritage and reconnecting to the main Jalan Lintas route.

A new roundabout has been installed at the BTC junction as part of the upgrade, replacing the previous road configuration.

Under the revised layout, two-way lanes will operate from the Luyang Health Clinic towards the roundabout, with a one-way lane heading towards the Luyang Health Clinic and a separate one-way lane towards Lok Tien and Anglo Chinese School, with two-way lanes from that direction entering the roundabout.

KTI Group said the changes were designed to improve traffic distribution and reduce bottlenecks along the busy corridor.

Beyond the road infrastructure itself, the developer said it had engaged its contractor to repair neighbourhood roads damaged by heavy vehicle movement during the closure period, as well as improve street lighting to enhance visibility for night-time travel.

“We understand that the past few months have been challenging for many road users. At KTI, we believe that responsible development goes beyond our projects, it extends to how we contribute to the surrounding community and infrastructure,” the group said in a statement, Thursday.

Roadworks near Pick N Pay Supermarket along the same stretch are ongoing, with full completion expected by June 2026. Temporary partial lane arrangements will remain in place in that section while construction continues.

KTI Group acknowledged the disruption caused to residents, businesses and daily commuters during the closure period and thanked the public for their patience.
