KOTA KINABALU: Sabah is aiming to welcome over four million visitors in 2026, aligning with Visit Malaysia Year and setting the stage for Visit Sabah Year 2027.
Delivering his policy speech at the opening of the 17th State Legislative Assembly on Thursday, Head of State Tun Musa Aman emphasized that the government is committed to diversifying tourism products and enhancing safety standards to solidify the state's status as a premier regional destination.
Under the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP), development will focus on high-value community-based tourism and the preservation of cultural heritage.
Tun Musa noted that infrastructure restoration and new exhibition spaces will be prioritized to support local creative industries.
To ensure a world-class experience, the state will also tighten enforcement and safety procedures for high-risk activities, ensuring all operators comply with international best practices while fostering inclusive economic growth for local communities.
