KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah State Government is intensifying efforts to strengthen its food and agro sectors through modernization, innovation, and the newly introduced Rural Agricultural Economic Revolution (RAER) Initiative 2025–2030.
Delivering his policy speech at the opening of the 17th State Legislative Assembly on Thursday, Head of State Tun Musa Aman highlighted that these strategic measures are essential for ensuring long-term food security and stimulating the rural economy.
Key initiatives include the Padi Revolution Programme and biotechnology development aimed at enhancing agricultural efficiency, alongside the Kitchen Garden Programme to encourage household-level production.
Tun Musa also noted that the palm oil industry remains a primary economic pillar, with a focus on precision farming and biomass utilization.
In the fisheries sector, the State will prioritize the Blue Economy, which includes expanding jetty facilities at the Safma Fisheries Complex to increase fish landings by over 20 per cent.
Additionally, the livestock sector will focus on raising the self-sufficiency rate of ruminants and strengthening animal health systems to ensure a stable and safe food supply for all Sabahans.
