JaPen expands Pentarama to 40 schools for awareness

KENINGAU: The Sabah Information Department (JaPen) is expanding its edutainment-based Pentarama programme to 40 schools this year to raise awareness among students about government policies, internet safety and bullying issues. 

Sabah Information Director Jainisah Mohd Noor said the initiative includes Pentarama Homecoming for primary schools and Pentarama X Kelab Malaysiaku for secondary schools.

“The programme serves as a platform to deliver information on government policies to pupils and students in a more relaxed and interactive manner,” she said. 

“This year, its implementation has been increased to 20 primary schools and 20 secondary schools, compared to only 10 schools last year.”

She made these remarks after attending the Pentarama X Kelab Malaysiaku programme at SMK Keningau II on Thursday.

She added that the programme is carried out in collaboration with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission, the Royal Malaysia Police, and the Ministry of Education.

“The Communications Commission provides exposure on the Safe Internet Campaign, while the police deliver briefings on bullying prevention among students. The programme runs from April to September and is expected to enhance students’ awareness of safe internet usage and reduce bullying in schools,” she explained.

Meanwhile, SJK (C) Yuk Yin Keningau Headmaster Chong Vun Siong said the Pentarama Homecoming programme helps strengthen patriotism, identity, and love for the country among pupils.

He hoped the programme would continue, as it provides students with exposure to current issues and aspects of multimedia safety. The programme also featured quiz sessions, interactive games, local ethnic costume showcases, and performances of patriotic songs.

Also present were Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission Keningau Assistant Director Syafiera Sukor, SMK Keningau II Principal Ahmud Saribin, Special Branch Officer from the Keningau District Police Headquarters Inspector Hazwan Kuik @ Haris, and Keningau District Information Officer Mohd Said Kalihing.
