Animal rescue trip turns into tragic highway crash
SEREMBAN: A rescue mission to rehome animals ended in tragedy on Sunday when a van carrying cats and dogs to a pet adoption event was struck by a lorry on the North-South Expressway.

The van, transporting 20 cats and five dogs from Melaka to Kuala Lumpur, had stopped in the emergency lane due to a technical issue when it was hit from behind at about 10.15am.

According to Sinar Daily, the impact caused the vehicle to overturn into a ditch, resulting in the deaths of two cats and one dog, while several other animals were injured.

Two women in the van sustained minor injuries and were treated as outpatients, with the surviving animals part of an ongoing rescue and rehoming effort.
