SINGAPORE: Nine people reported gastroenteritis symptoms after travelling on board the Disney Adventure cruise from March 16-19,
The Straits Times reported.
The Singapore Food Agency (SFA) said on March 28 that it is investigating the incident involving eight passengers and one staff member.
They developed symptoms between March 19 and March 20 and received medical attention, with none hospitalised and all having since recovered.
SFA said the nine individuals are the only reported cases with symptoms as at March 27.
Gastroenteritis is an inflammation of the stomach and intestines, commonly caused by bacteria such as salmonella or viruses such as norovirus.
It can be transmitted through poor food handling and preparation, contaminated food or water, poor hygiene, close contact with infected individuals or contact with contaminated objects.
The Disney Adventure, which began its maiden voyage on March 10, is Disney Cruise Line’s eighth and largest ship, accommodating up to 6,700 passengers across 20 decks with seven themed areas and operates as a cruise to nowhere without scheduled port stops.
