According to
AsiaOne, the woman, believed to be in her 20s, had boarded the taxi and asked to be taken to the seaside in Shenzhen earlier this month.
The 57-year-old driver, identified as Lu Jianjun, reportedly became concerned after the passenger was seen crying and speaking negatively during several phone calls throughout the journey.
As they neared Shenzhen Bay, Lu allegedly diverted from the coastline and attempted to comfort the woman, while later contacting police when her condition appeared to worsen.
Dashcam footage circulating online showed the driver urging the passenger not to “do anything foolish” and offering to send her home free of charge.
Police later located the woman after she reportedly ran from the vehicle, with reports stating she eventually left with family members after her condition stabilised.
