KUALA LUMPUR: The government approved 401 projects to redevelop dilapidated school buildings in Sabah between 2016 and 2026, with more than half completed to date.
Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek said 238 projects have been completed, 63 are under construction, and 100 are in the pre-construction phase.
She said 31 projects were approved in the Ranau Parliament, of which 12 have been completed, nine are under construction, and 10 are in the pre-construction phase.
“As of Dec 31, 2025, there are 368 schools in Sabah identified as having dilapidated buildings under Scale 7, including 32 schools in the Ranau constituency,” she said in a written reply to a question by Ranau MP Datuk Jonathan Yasin during the Dewan Rakyat sitting.
She said the Education Ministry (MOE) is implementing phased measures to address the issue, including short-term maintenance works, long-term replacement or reconstruction of Scale 7 school buildings, phased submissions to the Economy Ministry under the Five-Year Malaysia Plan (RMLT), and broader efforts to strengthen skilled teaching staff, expand digital education and improve school facilities and student talent development.
