Kota Kinabalu: Sabah Boxing Association has been presented a new Olympic standard boxing ring donated by Malaysia Boxing Federation (MBF) recently.
The handing over of the ring named as ‘Ring Orlando’ in honour of Sabah Boxing Association president Datuk Orlando Harumal was held at the Tuaran Basketball Hall.

MBF president Datuk Iruan Dzulkifli said the Olympic standard ring given is aimed at enhancing the State’s boxing capabilities and will be utilised in upcoming state boxing tournaments.
“This is a significant move for the sport of boxing in Sabah and it highlights its status as the most active state in the country.
“The new ring, which is set to elevate the standard of local competitions, has been named “Ring Orlando” in honour of Sabah’s longest-serving president Datuk Orlando
Harumal as a tribute to his years of dedicated service and leadership in promoting boxing within the State,” he said.
He also pledged his commitment in the development of boxing in Sabah and hoped that with the right training and support, these boxers could one day make it to the Olympics.
Orlando commended Iruan for his support towards the State boxing body since taking office as the president of MBF, which has seen significant improvements under his tenure.
“We are led by a boxing president at the national level who is both authoritative and attentive to his duties.
“This is the first time since I have been involved in boxing that a president not only makes promises but also backs them up with action.
“The National Boxing Championship, which has been successfully hosted in Sabah for two consecutive years, showcasing his commitment by attending events in Sabah regularly.
“He has also provided us with boxing equipment in the past, which has greatly benefited our local athletes.
“We are committed to supporting his leadership and would like to express our gratitude for his contributions,” he added.
