Kota Kinabalu: Infrastructure, public safety, and environmental cleanliness were among the key issues discussed during a coordination meeting between the Kota Kinabalu Parliamentary Office and City Hall (DBKK) at City Hall here on Tuesday.
The meeting was led by Kota Kinabalu MP Datuk Chan Foong Hin and Mayor Datuk Seri Sabin Samitah.

During the meeting, Chan conveyed feedback received from residents by the Parliamentary team, including concerns over potholed roads, insufficient street lighting, especially at night, the need for improved drainage maintenance, and the overall cleanliness of the city.
The issues were discussed openly and constructively as part of efforts to strengthen cooperation between the Parliamentary Office and the local authority to ensure public concerns are addressed more quickly and effectively.
Chan also welcomed the Mayor’s recent announcement that 1,500 closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras will be installed at strategic locations around Kota Kinabalu in the first phase.
The project is currently being discussed with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and is scheduled to begin this year.
He said the initiative is timely as it will help enhance public safety, including for tourists, and reduce street crime, which has previously affected the city’s image, including incidents involving tourists and snatch thefts.
The Kota Kinabalu Parliamentary Office reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with DBKK to make the city cleaner, safer, more liveable, and more tourist-friendly, in line with sustainable urban development goals.
At the meeting, Chan also presented a basket of local fruits to Sabin as a token of appreciation and in support of the “Jom Sapot Buah-Buahan Tempatan” campaign to promote local agricultural products.
