Malaysia–China Chamber of Commerce Sabah picks leaders
The Selection Committee conducted a show-of-hands vote on the proposed candidates.
Kota Kinabalu: The Malaysia–China Chamber of Commerce Sabah (MCCC Sabah) held a leadership selection meeting that involved nearly four hours of deliberation to assess candidates for its Main Committee, the Women Entrepreneurs Committee (WEC) and the board of Koperasi Usahawan Utama Sabah Berhad.

The Selection Committee finalised appointments for the WEC and the Cooperative, selecting four members for the WEC and appointing nine directors to the Cooperative board.

For the Main Committee, only two candidates were confirmed for five available positions due to differing views among Council members, with the remaining three posts to be discussed at a later date.

President Datuk Dexter Lau said the process began with nearly 300 members before narrowing to 77 candidates in the first round, 41 in the second round and 27 in the third round, with final selections made based on merit and potential.

Datuk Dexter said MCCC Sabah had entered a new era in which leadership selection was no longer based on familiarity or personal ties but on structured discussion, debate and broad consultation, with former president Datuk Michael Chin invited to oversee the process to ensure fairness, neutrality and transparency.

Deputy President Kapitan Dr Callee Tan Kai Lee said leadership selection required a highly cautious and responsible approach as appointed leaders would shape the Chamber’s future direction.

Cooperative Chairman Louis Su said that while the nine appointed directors might not fully align with his personal preferences, those selected through collective deliberation and strict screening would contribute positively to the Cooperative and MCCC Sabah.
