Kota Kinabalu: A 49-year-old local man died in a road accident involving a car and a motorcycle along Jalan Kota Kinabalu–Papar near Kampung Petagas on Saturday morning.
Penampang District Police Chief Supt Sammy Newton said the incident occurred at around 9.20am when the motorcycle reportedly collided with the rear of a car.
“Initial investigations found that the motorcycle crashed into the rear of the car, causing it to catch fire,” he said.
The motorcyclist was rushed to Queen Elizabeth Hospital I in Kota Kinabalu but was later pronounced dead. The car driver was unharmed.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.
Police advised all road users to ensure their vehicles are in good condition and to drive cautiously at all times.
