KINABATANGAN: Barisan Nasional (BN) retained the Kinabatangan parliamentary seat and the Lamag state seat in the Kinabatangan and Lamag by-elections on Saturday.
Mohd Kurniawan Naim Moktar, 32, won Kinabatangan with a majority of 14,214 after polling 19,852 votes to defeat Datuk Saddi Abdul Rahman (5,638) and Goldam H. Salangah (946), continuing the legacy of his late father Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin, who died on Dec 5, 2025.
Kinabatangan remains a BN stronghold, with the coalition having held the seat for six terms since 1999.
In Lamag, Mohd Ismail Ayob, 45, won a straight fight with a majority of 5,681 after securing 7,269 votes against Parti Warisan’s Mazliwati Abdul Malek, who garnered 1,588.
The results were announced by Kinabatangan by-election returning officer Eddy Syaizul Rizam Abdullah at the official tallying centre at Dewan Sri Lamag, witnessed by Sabah BN deputy chairman and Sabah Umno chief Datuk Jafri Arifin.
