Kota Kinabalu: SMKA Tun Datu Mustapha’s warden chief revealed that the mother of Student A knew about conflicts between Zara Qairina Mahathir and her mother and grandmother.
Ustaz Azhari Abd Sagap, re-called as a deponent, testified that Cikgu Dayang Azira had shared her conversation with Student A’s mother after two pages from Zara’s diaries were mentioned.

Student A was one of five teenagers charged in the Children’s Court in connection with Zara’s incident.
Azhari said that in the conversation, Dayang was told by Student A’s mother that Zara’s mother had come to meet her, but Zara pretended not to know.
Student A’s mother added that Zara had hurled insults at her mother and grandmother after waiting for hours, causing her mother to leave the situation.
When questioned by counsel Shahlan Jufri, Azhari said he could not recall when the screenshots of the conversations were shared with him, but Dayang had informed him on July 17, before he took a student to Papar police station to record a statement.
He explained that the conversations between Dayang and Student A’s mother surfaced after Zara’s diary entries included the phrase “kenapa hidup saya begini,” indicating she was experiencing personal problems.
Dayang had shared the conversations because Azhari asked if there were any other chats from Student A’s mother.
Azhari clarified that the content of the two diary pages had not been discussed in a meeting, but Cikgu Yuslina had sent them to him as images on July 17.
During an emergency meeting that day, the diary content was summarised briefly by Yuslina, and she could not recall the principal’s response.
During the proceedings, Azhari tendered several new documents as exhibits, including seven handwritten papers with phrases such as “Saya sedih,” “Assalamualaikum kawan,” “Assalamualaikum kakak tiri,” “Adeeb love Zara,” “Surat privasi,” “Kenapa awak nak sangat jadi Badar,” and “Calling BF D Blok A.”
Other documents included WhatsApp conversations between Azhari and Syukriah, screenshots of conversations between Dayang and Student A’s mother from March, WhatsApp messages on July 17 between Azhari and Cikgu Miswati and Cikgu Amy (from SK Pantai), and five pages of mental health screening.
Azhari mentioned that Zara’s diaries contained a “Patung Avocado.”
He also described a piece of paper handed to him by Student D, found on the metal staircase on the third floor on July 12. Student D did not explain why she kept it for nine days.
Azhari added that on July 15, another student gave Zara a privacy letter stating “love Adeeb,” but she did not know what happened to the letter afterwards.
