Kota Kinabalu: The Malaysia–China Chamber of Commerce (MCCC) Sabah is positioning its Women Entrepreneurs Committee (WEC) as a core driver of business growth and community development, with full institutional representation, dedicated funding, and strategic initiatives to connect local women-led enterprises to global opportunities.
MCCC Sabah President Datuk Dexter Lau emphasised that the chamber upholds principles of fairness, impartiality, and non-politicisation, building a governance framework that integrates the WEC as a full voting member of the council – not just an auxiliary body.

He said this ensures women’s perspectives shape all strategic decisions, from programme design to partnership development, creating a more inclusive business ecosystem in Sabah.
Dexter said the chamber established a comprehensive mechanism to embed WEC participation across all operations, including training programmes, networking platforms, and leadership appointments.
Beyond supporting active members, the focus is on systematic capacity-building to prepare women entrepreneurs for senior leadership roles.
Lau highlighted that leadership selection will prioritize both engagement and potential, ensuring outstanding business owners focused on scaling their enterprises are also given opportunities to contribute at the highest levels, he added.
To elevate the profile of local women entrepreneurs, Dexter said the council allocated approximately RM300,000 for its upcoming annual flagship event.
The platform will highlight the creativity, dynamism, and international competitiveness of Sabah’s women-led businesses, serving as a bridge to connect them with regional and global markets.
MCCC Sabah is investing in equipping WEC members with skills in media engagement and strategic communication to build strong public profiles for themselves and their enterprises.
