PITAS: A 106-year-old man who was reported missing from his home in Kampung Pondoi was found dead on Friday morning after a multi-agency search-and-rescue operation.

The victim, Bakar Sampelit, was last seen on Jan 3 and was reported missing by his family after initial searches around the village failed to locate him.

The operation, launched at about 9.15am following a request from the police, involved seven firefighters from the Pitas Fire and Rescue Station working with the police, civil defence personnel, Rela members and villagers in nearby forested areas.

His body was discovered at about 10.52am in a small stream roughly 500 metres from his home and was confirmed dead by the police before being taken for further investigation.
