Kota Kinabalu: Thirty-six people were jailed and fined for committing various immigration offences.
All 36 pleaded guilty separately before Sessions Court Judge Hurman Hussain to the charges.
Twenty-eight of them were each jailed four months for entering the State without documents.
Six others were charged under Section 15(1)(c) of the same Act for overstaying in the country after their documents had been expired.
Two were sentenced to 12 months’ jail, one received six months, and the remaining three were fined RM10,000 each or six months’ jail.
Two other illegal immigrants were each sentenced to 10 months’ jail for entering Sabah without valid documents and for re-entering the state after deportation.
All the 36 were arrested at several separate locations in the State in October last year.
The court also ordered all of them to be referred to the Immigration Department for deportation after completing their sentences.
