Federal-State cooperation key to boosting food security: Chan

Kota Kinabalu: Agriculture and Food Security Deputy Minister Datuk Chan Foong Hin emphasised the importance of strategic cooperation between the Sabah State Government and the Federal Government to enhance agriculture and food security.

In his first assignment of 2026 at the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (KPKM), Chan said the session with KPKM Sabah agency was a chance to strengthen relationships and familiarise with new colleagues.

“My first assignment at the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (KPKM) for the year 2026 began in Kota Kinabalu. I am honored to reconnect with long-time colleagues and to meet new faces,” he said during the Amanat Session with KPKM Sabah agency on Monday, taken from his social media post. 

He said the session also served as an opportunity for familiarisation and to strengthen working relationships.

Chan said Sabah is among the key states contributing to the nation’s agricultural economy. 

“It is important to ensure close cooperation with the Sabah State Government to sustain the agricultural industry and further strengthen the national food security agenda.

“I am confident that well-structured strategic cooperation between the Federal and State Governments will help increase productivity, strengthen the food supply chain, and ensure that government assistance continues to reach farmers and the people,” he said.
