KENINGAU: A residential house and a café building were destroyed in a fire that occurred at Kampung Bakiau at about noon on Sunday.
According to the on-duty officer at the Operations Control Centre of the Sabah Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM), the department received a call via the station hotline at 12.18pm and arrived at the scene at 12.22pm, about three kilometres away.
The fire was brought under control at 12.25pm and the operation ended at 2.08pm.
He said the fire involved two structures. The first was a non-permanent residential house measuring 25 x 40 square feet, which was 100 per cent destroyed, while the second was a permanent café building measuring 20 x 30 square feet, which was 90 per cent damaged.
The fire started at the house and spread to the café located nearby.
Firefighting operations were carried out using two hose lines with three nozzles and one breeching.
The first line used one nozzle for offensive firefighting, while the second line used two nozzles for defensive firefighting, with water supplied from a water tanker until the fire was fully extinguished.
No injuries or fatalities were reported.
Checks were conducted around the area to ensure no further hazards existed before the operation was concluded.
A total of 11 personnel were involved in the operation, comprising one FRT with six personnel, one EMRS with two personnel, and one water tanker with three personnel.
