BEAUFORT: Residents living in low-lying and flood-prone areas in the district have been urged to evacuate early to avoid danger as rising river levels threaten prolonged flooding.
Lumadan assemblyman Datuk Ruslan Muharamsaid made the call on Sunday after the water level of the Sungai Padas rose again to 9.13 metres at noon despite earlier signs of receding, with overcast weather raising concerns that flooding could persist for several days.

Ruslan warned residents not to wait until nightfall or until roads become impassable before seeking help, stressing that early evacuation is critical for personal safety.
He was speaking during a visit to the Selagon Permanent Evacuation Centre here, which is currently sheltering 328 victims from 118 families affected by the floods.
Ruslan, who is also Assistant Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Industry Minister, said the situation has been worsened by tidal movements slowing river discharge into the sea, complicating rescue operations and contributing to continued flooding in several areas.
