KUCHING: In the past decade, Technip Energies built Petronas’ FLNG (PFLNG) Satu, the first floating LNG facility in the world. The PFLNG Satu plays an important role in Petronas’ efforts to unlock gas reserves in Malaysia’s remote and stranded fields.
Technip Energies also played a key role in executing the Petronas Refinery and Petrochemical Integrated Development (RAPID) project in Johor, where it is both management consultant for the RAPID Project as well as the EPCM (Engineering, Procurement and Construction Management) contractor for its utilities, offsite and interconnecting facilities.

RAPID is a world-scale complex aiming to answer the growing need for differentiated and specialty chemicals and to meet future demands in the Asia Pacific region.
Daily Express asked Amran Ahmad on his company’s proprietary expertise on sustainable aviation fuel as governments, including Malaysia, have or will levy a carbon tax on air travel passengers of commercial airlines.
He told Daily Express that Technip Energies’ proprietary Hummingbird® ethanol-to-green ethylene technology is a key technology for sustainable aviation fuels (SAF).
Amran:
“Until the government publishes its policy on carbon tax incentive, I don’t want to speculate on anything. The best way to decarbonize the aviation industry is by using SAF. I believe by using SAF, we could reduce carbon emissions by year 2025.
In terms of SAF, one way of decarbonising the aviation industry is by using SAF. I believe by using SAF we could reduce 65 per cent of the carbon emission by year 2050. So, it plays an important role in reducing carbon emission.
“We are very much involved in SAF. Globally we are involved in SAF projects, either producing or with plants still under construction to about 6 million tons per annum of SAF.
Neste’s Singapore plant was awarded to Technip Energies in December 2018 with a capacity of 800,000 tons per year of biofuel. We delivered a plant that integrated into the existing industrial infrastructure and makes use of local site utilities, port and storage services.
“And the biggest project that we are doing in this region is the Neste plant in Singapore. That one is about 1.3 million tons per annum of SAF,” Amran said.
Technip Energies’ goal is to bridge the benefits of prosperity with the challenges of sustainability. Through continuous innovation, smart engineering and excellence in execution, Technip Energies will continue to deliver sustainable solutions for a world designed to last.
