Kota Kinabalu: “It is but my duty” – the perfect quote to accompany retiring parish priest of St Simon Catholic Church Likas. Some 600 well-wishers turned up at the Farewell and Welcoming Dinner, Sunday, to bid “goodbye” to Fr Cosmas Lee and welcome his successor Fr Michael Modoit.
Having helmed the Likas parish rector post since June 1, 2008, Fr Cosmas expressed his gratitude to God and the parishioners not only for some 17 years of service as rector but also 49 years as a priest.
“Few priests have been given the opportunity to study in so many places, lived in so many countries, travelled so much. God has been wonderful,” he told the packed parish hall.
“I am at the end of my journey. It’s a little bit intimidating to celebrate the end of your ministry with your retirement,” Fr Cosmas said, referring to his physical and mental decline, which he called a new stage in life.
