KOTA MARUDU: MMT Junior from Sook, Keningau emerged champions of the Sabah Open Under-13 (11-a-side) Football Tournament, organised by Base Football Club over the weekend, at Padang Pekan Lama and Padang Daerah here.
They received RM2,000 in cash, a trophy and medals. Perisai Junior FC from Sandakan finished second to take RM1,000, while Talawa FC from Kota Belud placed third and received RM500. Both teams also received trophies and medals.

Prizes were presented by Bandau Assemblyman and Assistant Minister of Local Government and Housing, Datuk Dr Maijol Mahap.
A total of 21 teams from 16 districts competed in the tournament, which was organised by Base Football Club, a registered football club under the Sports Commissioner of Malaysia and the Kota Marudu District Football Association.
Base Football Club president Harris Suyut said the tournament was aimed at identifying and developing young football talents and promoting sportsmanship, discipline and teamwork among players.
He expressed hope that the tournament could be expanded to the national level in the future.
